Relate Derby and Southern Derbyshire’s dedicated team have been supporting local people for over 70 years. Our specially trained counsellors are experienced in working with adults, children and young people, schools, employers, families and people on the autism spectrum as well as our more well-known work with couples and individuals on relationships and psychosexual therapy. We work closely with Relate Chesterfield, delivering services across Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

Relate’s vision is for a future in which good relationships of all kinds form the heart of a thriving society. We are currently in the process of revisiting our 5-year strategy to agree our direction of travel and priorities to ensure we remain relevant, sustainable, and fit for the future. During the pandemic we swiftly shifted to remote counselling with our staff working from home, we are now seeing an increased demand for face-to-face counselling, and are working with our staff to establish accessible services responsive to the needs of our clients.

To help us fulfil these ambitions, we are looking for experienced and committed individuals to play an essential role in the governance and development of our charity. We are currently seeking new Trustees with skills and/or experience across a broad range of leadership and business roles but any of the following would be especially useful:

Finance, communications and marketing, and clinical practice, human resources

You need not have been a charity trustee before, but you will have experience of participating and decision-making at a senior level; independence of thought and judgement; a strong belief in Relate’s ethos and values and time to commit.

You will have ultimate responsibility for the strategic direction of the charity and for ensuring Relate Derby and Southern Derbyshire is effectively delivering high quality services that meet the needs of our local community. You will ensure Relate Derby and southern Derbyshire complies with charity law and is well-run. If you want to know more about the role of a Trustee you may find this guidance from the Charity Commission helpful – the Essential Trustee what you need to know, what you need to do

We value having a Board that reflects the diversity of the local community which we serve and so we would particularly welcome applications from people of different ethnic origins or faiths, younger people, people with disabilities and people from the LGBTQ+ community.
