In schools we offer support to both students and staff. We can offer a tailored package of professional service options to suit a wide range of budgets. For teachers, our services enable them to keep their professional focus where it should be – on strong pupil relationships and inspirational learning.
Below are details of some of the ways we can support your school or educational facility, please get in touch with Relate Derby and Southern Derbyshire to discuss your particular requirements.
Relate Derby is commissioned by the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust through Talking Mental Health Derbyshire to provide free counselling for couples and young people (16-18 years old) dealing with anxiety, depression, low mood, relationship issues, sex issues, loss, grief, trauma and other conditions. This service is called IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies).
You can access this free service if you are registered with a GP in one of the designated areas in Derby and Derbyshire. Please contact your GP to get referred to us or contact us directly.
We have been delivering our Relate Safe Speak counselling service in Schools since 2002. Many schools have bought in our counselling services, meaning we are able to place a qualified, specialist counsellor on site, increasing pastoral provision in school and allowing for integrated working to support students. We are able to offer some counselling services for free in school, but schools can also ’top up’ the level of service by buying in additional support. We work in primary schools, secondary schools and colleges and deliver face to face and live chat services.
The opportunity to talk to a trusted, professional counsellor has a positive impact on many areas of children and young people’s lives. It can help increase their self-esteem and confidence, enable them to communicate better with their peers, teachers and families and increase their ability to focus and engage with learning.
All Relate counsellors who work with children and young people are qualified to provide counselling, have undergone appropriate vetting and barring procedures, and are trained in child protection and safeguarding. We also have close links with other agencies and often support schools with referrals to other specialist agencies.
• 1-to-1 and group supervision services to school pastoral staff
• Coaching for senior management teams
Many schools have bought in our courses to support school staff. Our Counselling skills for non-counsellors is particularly popular with school pastoral teams. We also have a successful Peer Listening training package available.
